Balthasar is a hand-carved and hand-painted wooden figure from the Henning collection, representing one of the Three Kings in a traditional Scandinavian nativity style.
Designed in 1999 by Henning Engelsen and Bjarne Espedal, this Balthasar figure is part of the Henning Nativity collection, known for its unique Scandinavian woodcarving artistry. Carved from birch and linden wood, the figure features soft, folk-inspired facial features and rich, masterful colors that blend Norwegian craftsmanship with European tradition.
The figure stands in a regal pose, dressed in a flowing white robe with a blue and gold-trimmed cloak, and wears a white turban adorned with a blue jewel. Balthasar holds a gold-colored gift, symbolizing the traditional gift of myrrh.
